Hi, Is that possible to use a tag to identify some shops that are part of a local organization? I'm working for a local organization that explains to storekeepers that some customers would like to buy products without packaging (bulk products) to reduce their amount of waste generated. The organization certifies the shops once the storekeeper understands this purpose and accepts that customers buy some products (meat, vegetables...) with their own wrapping solutions (could be a jar, a re-used paper bag...). Do you think it would be best to use a local tag like <organization_name>_certified or a more generic tag like: customer_wrapping_solutions_accepted? Thanks |

Hi, I would like to relaunch this discussion. After a long thought, I think we need to distinguish different kinds of behaviours: 1) the shops that sell bulk products and the customer can decide if he wants to use the shop's packaging or not. The customer doesn't need to ask not to have the packaging because he can pick the product up himself without the need of someone. That's the case when the shop uses this kind of boxes that the customer can directly use:
2) the shops that sell bulk products but where someone, often a shop assistant or seller, will package it automatically when buying the product. This shops are shops like bakery, butcher's, coffee roasted, cake shop... Some of these shops will accept that the customers use their own packages but the difference with the previous category is that the customer needs to ask the seller for this service. Also that's often something that is not visible from the outsite of the shop, or even inside the shop without talking with a seller. In some cases the shops accepting that customers uses their own packaging are identified with a sticker like this one (from the Zero Waste organization) and visible by the customers without asking:

For me something generic like I just do not know what a good tag key might be. Some ideas:

So, after all, I would suggest to use I don't think bulk purchase is right: from the description the quanity of goods might be small, just not packaged. Whatever tag is used, I'd suggest suitable_tag_scheme="Name of Organisation" as a way to allow for a variety of schemes.

@SK53 from what I understood, I do not understand your proposed tag, could you detail on that? An example? Maybe write an own "answer" for this.

For me bulk_purchase is different than "bring_your_own_containers=yes". As said in the Wiki page of the bulk_purchase tag : "This is meant as a principle. Not every supermarket that sells bananas without plastic bags around them is a bulk purchase shop.". So a small shop that accepts that customers bring their own containers to buy bananas wouldn't have the bulk_purchase tag, but the shop could have the "bring_your_own_containers" tag.
