That said, the map looks many different ways, depending on what rendering is being used. The default rendering you see on the homepage is not the only one. There are different transport maps - öpnvkarte.de, openptmap.org, or the transport map on www.openstreetmap.org, all made by different people with different design goals. The transport map on www.openstreetmap.org is made by Andy Allan; there's a link to his site in the botton right corner of the screen when you activate the transport map.
