A local mapper might give you a quick lesson in a an internet cafe if you can give a town. Another option is to attend a mapping party, not that have as they have all been 100 km+ distance.

I guess most mappers just read the beginner's guide, picked a editor and started. Do not worry you will not damage or change the map until you save what you have done. JUST DIVE IN. I've been mapping for several years now, mainly with Potlatch2 but i have tried and edited with iD, JOSM and Makartor, but if i were to start now i would pick JOSM. Just download Java and JOSM and have a play to start learning. Happy Mapping
