I just started OSM mapping from 16 August 2017. As a new user, I would be happy to know the basic difference between ID and JOSM. Advance thanks.

I'd suggest that you try them both to find out!

There's more information at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Comparison_of_editors .

The basic difference is: iD runs in your browser (with all the constraints that brings with it) and for normal use can be considered only usable if you have an continuous Internet connection, JOSM is a stand-alone desktop application with all the advantages that has (multi window etc) that can be used without a continuous connection.

Obvious the detailed list of differences is very very long and a moving target, and it doesn't make sense to compile it here.

Have you looked at some of the videos that are available? If you want to do a lot of mapping go straight to JOSM. But iD is good for some small quick changes, it is very good for mapping turn restrictions.
