When I go to openstreetmap.org and zoom in on ski trails, I only see the lifts unless I click on the "map data' button. Anyone know why? What am I doing wrong here? Is there a way to see the trails without having to click on map data? It takes too long if map data is selected.

Thanks

The default map on openstreetmap.org can't show absolutely everything - it's more a simple demonstration style. But lots of other sites use OSM data and choose their own features to show. http://www.opensnowmap.org is probably the one most suited for you.

The Waymarked Trails site also has a "slopes" map which includes cross-country and downhill skiing: https://slopes.waymarkedtrails.org
