You couldn't see the access tag in the map, whether a gate is open for general public or permanent closed. I know a way, you walk 6 kilometer around a lake and reach a permanent closed large gate. You have to walk all the way back or thought the thick forest. I prefer a map, shows me that.

The map can't display all access conditions since there are just too many (foot, bicycle, different kinds of cars, motorcycles, hgv, bus and various more). Use a router before planning a trip.

The usual access tags should be used.

access=private means the gate is closed for the general public. access=yes means it is open for everyone.

For time-based restrictions see the conditional restrictions scheme. Example: If the gate is closed during the night then use access=yes + access:conditional=no @ (20:00-06:00).
