Yes, it's yet another 'change the street names language' question, but I've been looking around since this morning, I've been messing around with settings both inside openstreetmap.org as well as inside Maperitive but I can't seem to get a break. I'm watching the map of Greece and all street names are in greek. I'm trying to get them to show in english. After playing around with the rendering rules files in Maperitive, the best I could do was change some titles in english (names of the suburbs). After entering editing mode I figured that the streets do not have multilingual names. So far so good. The thing is that I download OsmAnd on my phone and saw that english names were indeed present. What's the deal here? Does the app get the names from another source? Does it automatically translate the names? In the second case is there any way to do the same, either inside Maperitive or inside the openstreetmap website and export to an .osm file? |

Yes, OsmAnd transliterates names of points that have no English name set. It does so using the JUnidecode java library. They are both open source, so you can export a .osm file and use the library to transliterate the name tags in it. |

Given that there is unlikely to be any valid English names for a larger number of streets in Greece, I'm not quite sure what you are trying to attempt.
