Seeing more and more of these getting constructed every year. No idea how to tag them.

There are many buildings where I live that have a single purpose: storing people's belongings for a temporary period of time. These are often called "public storage units". They are usually long buildings with multiple garage units. Some are multistory, climate-controlled structures.

I have made several attempts to research the wiki and the help pages, but I have not found anything to help, except "boat storage". Can anyone here share what worked for them? Or should I do building=retail and name="Public Storage" and be done with it?

I had a look at what people map this sort of thing as a month or so ago (see here).

"amenity=self_storage", "amenity=storage", "shop=storage_rental" and "amenity=storage_rental" were all used in the UK; internationally there may be more keys. Try searching for the name of the company in taginfo and have a look at what people tag things with that name as.
