problems with opening the map.osm-2.xml on my Garmin using a Mac

I have ben researching this and cannot get any answers. Can anyone give me step by step instructions? I have an Mac OS Sierra operating system.

Where are you getting this file from? An XML file isn't the right format if you're trying to load a map onto a Garmin device.
