Error in osm map showing some places names as boxes

I configure osm using the link:

https://switch2osm.org/serving-tiles/building-a-tile-server-from-packages/

But after setting up map places linke china, cambodia and some other countries are showing their labels as boxes only. How can I correct the error?

It's a font problem, but unfortunately I've no idea what fonts you'd need to install with that map style to fix it. You may also need to make some map style changes too.

Just to confirm - what OS was this installed on?

it is installed on ubuntu 12.04
