How can I see the GPS position in edit mode? I would like to see the GPS position of the mouse curser or the point I am dragging.

do you mean the coordinates of the mouse cursor? Or really something with GPS? In case you did not mean GPS:

See the very similar question https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/53865/how-to-place-a-node-on-a-specific-coordinate for some hints.

Ok I can see the GPS coordinates in ID in the browser bar but it would be nicer to see the coordinates of the mouse position in realtime when moving the mouse around.

thanks, I have removed the "GPS" from your text as you seems not to be asking about the global positioning service.

Yes, I fully agree that knowing the current position of the mouse pointer is helpful. It seems not to be possible currently in iD. I suggest to use the other editor JOSM (not only for this).

Potlatch 2 also supports it (click the options button at top right and it's an option in there).
