There are some huge new areas that have been there for a couple of years, but not showing up in open street map. How can I add them so I can add the new lakes, walkways, parking, paths, streets?

Are these changes not reflected in bing satellite image? Hope you are aware of openstreetmap.org "edit". Once you go in edit mode the map is transparent and beneath there is satellite image from bing. You can draw very easily all these feature and name those with your local knowledge.

Gagan The Bing imagery we have in mid UK is over four years old judging by what it shows. How old is the imagery in Gunthans's area?

Then there is no other option other than GPS. I would suggest make a team of friends and organize sort of mapping party and tracking with GPS. But it is big question how OSM map would be updated for developing countries.

Other options are jpegs taken from balloons manned or unmanned, kites, microlites and drones. If there use is permitted. The Wiki as some info.

The short answer is: add those objects yourself. :)

The Beginners' Guide would be a good place to start in order to familiarize yourself with the OpenStreetMap environment and start contributing.

Walking around the area with a GPS a Camera and a note book. Field Papers would also help as you can draw and write notes on the sheet. The GPX trace, or several will give a good positional accuracy of all the accessible places. You can mark way-points that align with the edge of a lake you will need a second point at the other end of the same sight line, this will give a good basis drawing an estimated lake shape and position. You can only do the best you can until Bing is updated, a slightly inaccurate feature is better than non at all . Old Bing will often give a good clue to the position of new stuff in my experience. Field Papers can have the old Bing as a background so you could try that. I like mapping new stuff, enjoy. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Field_Papers other possibilities https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Vertical_Aerial_Photographs
