There is no possibility for importing maps for Mac on openstreetmap at this time, only possible for linux.

Could you define what you mean by "maps" here? Are you asking if there's a version of for macOS? If so, I'm not aware of one, but that doesn't mean that one does not exist.

Most of the tools used are to an extent OS-agnostic - so running them on something that (to me) very much resembles BSD Unix from the 1990s shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If that doesn't work, then an Ubuntu VM under something like Parallels should certainly be possible.

The server has generated four different configurations of your map: _windows.exe = Installer for Garmin BaseCamp/MapSource (Windows). = Installer for Garmin BaseCamp/RoadTrip (Mac OSX) = Combined image for direct manual placement on the GPS device (gmapsupp.img) = A zip file containing the tiles in the request, especially useful for Linux users (e.g. QLandkarte)

See MacOS in the OSM wiki. It lists various software for viewing maps, editing, recording GPX tracks and so on.
