Is it permissible to simply copy POIs listed on shopping centre's physical directory board, and then map them into OSM? I'm aware that these boards is useful as a guide (to do a survey)... but I have seen some changeset comments suggesting their contributor did so.

Hi there's no legal way to shortcut a mapping by copying those maps. Please read the legal rules for OSM at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Legal#Copyright_violation The presented maps are usable as an overview and backup, plaese make a picture or 2 just to remember the situation. But you got to see and note, picture, or map every shop in the mall yourself by using a GPS if possible or any other means. Since you’re using JOSM you even could measure the front of a shop and draw it up to 0,02 m.

Thank you for your input. Yeah, I guess we, OSM contributors, would rather not mess with things related to legal. Usually, I tend not to copy stuff straight away; I did some survey first. However, that kind of urge happens when I'm not going to shopping centres alone.

@Hendrikklaas: I do not see "maps" mentioned in the question. The question is about a list (text) of shop names which are in the shopping centre.
