Support of IE8 (from Microsoft) stopped long ago, so can you explain why you're using IE8 - is it because you're still running Windows XP, for example?

The usual suggestion is to "use another browser" (see e.g. http://www.zdnet.com/article/the-best-web-browsers-to-replace-obsolete-internet-explorer/ and https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA14-069A-0 ). Is there a reason why you can't do that?

I can confirm that this problem exists with IE8 (have to use this outdated browser at work for some stuff in our intranet), even on osm.org - tried compatibility view etc, but no luck so far. Guess only way to fix this is to use another browser, as it is no longer officially supported by Microsoft and doesn't receive security patches anymore.
