river to riverbank

0

In Potlach2 I have been changing a river(line) to a riverbank(polygon) in the rivers wider sections. I move the river to one bank and often using "f" to follow (whats available) to help one bank and drew other bits. the main niggle it looks like a polygon but I haven't got the river bank/lake closed way option any tips

Don't move the river way. Even rivers where the river banks are mapped should have a waterway=river way as centerline.

The flowline of a waterbody will often be what people are interested in using rather than it's surface area. Questions like "How long is River X?" can't be answered trivially if there is not a flowline. The direction of flow is not available from a riverbank polygon either. If I wanted to do a hydrographic simulation you've removed the most important data.

I have re-instated the river line as advised and drawn in a separate bank polygon which more clicks but creates less problems thanks both of you
