Have you already set up your "own database" (as per http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/The_Rails_Port ) and are just asking how to configure iD, or are you asking how to set up your own copy of OSM?

If the latter, it might be worth explaining why you're trying to do that, because there might be easier ways to achieve whatever it is that you want to.

Intellectual curiosity is, of course, a great reason to do anything - just wondered if you had a more specific goal in mind.

Hi Francis, you already asked https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/51166/save-id-editor-tags-to-a-new-database (without a good answer yet). Are you asking here for something different? It does not seem so.
