In two threads, I tried to convert my comment to an answer:

I click "convert to answer", then "yes [I'm sure]", then I get an error "We're sorry, but an unknown error occurred. Please try again in a while."

Note that the question is bumped in the question list (shows "30 secs ago by Piskvor"), but even after a refresh, the comment is still a comment and not an answer. Tried multiple times so far, from various computers/OSes/connections, but no luck.

One of the comments is at https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/15859/what-does-abandoned-railway-track-really-mean and the other at https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/50822/creating-maps-and-altitude-cross-sections

This is a known bug that is caused by editing a comment (non-edited comments can be converted without issues), nobody has summoned enough energy to fix it up to now.

a server(?) problem, which happens every now and then. I could not yet find out why and when it happens. It may work at some later point of time. Only way around is to write a new answer and delete the old comment.

It is a bug in OSQA (the software behind this help site) as far as I known.

@scai: do you know a bug tracker link/number?

If anywhere, probably trac. I believe the "live" source is https://git.openstreetmap.org/osqa.git/ .
