In the master OSM database, there exist records for every version of an object, and each version of an object links to the changeset ID that was responsible for creating this particular version.

oh nice!! Do you know when a regular OSM planet file is created, does it write only the latest version of an object, and therefore the changeset ID of the newest changeset that edited that object?

Yes. There are also history planet files that contain every version of an object (unless it has been redacted and thereby hidden from public view).
