I cannot download the map for Arua, Uganda. I am using the openstreetmap website (http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/3.0264/30.9285 ) and trying to download in an OSM format clicking on the export button. Does anyone know what is the problem? Is there any other place where to find a vectorial map for that city? By vectorial I mean any map format that I could open with Illustrator. I am using maperative to transform formats. Many thanks, Jose |

The export button on top of the osm.org site is meant to export raw osm data. Since you want to open the map in Illustrator, it doesn't sound like this is what you want. You can export a map in various image formats (png, svg, jpeg, pdf) from the share button on the right hand side (an arrow coming out of a box). An svg image should work in Illustrator, although I don't have Illustartor myself to check. The svg works in inkscape though, and I've used it to edit osm map images before. I've attached a screenshot (from http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/3.0226/30.9115) to show you how to download an svg image. This question has been discussed before as the previous answer said, see for example How do I export map images of larger areas?. There are also programs that can use raw osm data (downloaded using the 'Export'-button) to produce map images with more control. The export on the homepage is only meant for small areas. For OSM data sources see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Planet.osm (e.g. http://download.bbbike.org/osm/ may be useful to you to get an extract of your area). I guess you should be able to find a basically the same question in this list: https://help.openstreetmap.org/tags/export/?sort=mostvoted , but I cannot find now. |
Can you explain what you mean by "download"? What website are you using and what buttons are you pressing?
Also please explain what you mean by "vectorial map". Different software needs maps in different formats - something for MAPS.ME wouldn't work for OsmAnd, for example.

why "cannot download"? What is the problem? Do you get some error message?
