I've searched for a tag like this, but I couldn't find anything in the Wiki. There are several hail prevention facilities in Bulgaria. They are using the rocket delivered silver iodine method to dispense the hail clouds. First I thought it could be something like landuse=military, because rockets fit well with military, but it comes that these facilities are civilian (operated by the Hail Suppression Agency which is a part of the Ministry of Agriculture). Another thing is that these facilities sometimes have radars and weather stations. So monitoring=weather could come handy here, but it should be used only as a supplement because it still misses the general purpose of the facility. Further search in Wikipedia discovered that only 15 countries of the world practice such form of hail prevention. This explains why there is no popular tag for this. Any ideas here? P.S. To give you a little idea of what a "hail suppresion" is (it seems it is really non popular :), here it is the site of the Hail Suppresion Agency along with a video of a rocket launch: http://www.weathermod-bg.eu/pages/tech_en.php asked 04 May '11, 10:17 ivanatora |
Sounds amazing. Can you a take a photo? I want to see these rockets :-) Seriously, a photo is also a good way to start discussing with people how to tag something. It also proves that this thing really is something you've encountered and want to know how to map (as opposed to people inventing theoretical tagging problems without ever trying to do any mapping) Upload a photo to the wiki and and put answered 04 May '11, 15:18 Harry Wood See the P.S. to the thread question.

It looks like you get to choose You probably know more about cloud seeding / hail suppression than anyone else mapping in OSM, so you're probably the best placed to pick something. (and yes, we all want to see pictures of the rockets) answered 04 May '11, 15:36 SomeoneElse ♦ See the P.S. to the thread question.
