Hello,

I'd like to install JOSM on my Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan). Recent Mac OS X systems come without Java, so I have to install it manually before. The problem is that current Java version is 8... Is it a problem to install Java7 on the current Mac OS X version? Is JOSM going to be available with Java8 in the coming times? Any advice on this situation will be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

OK folks, thanks much! I had understood that JOSM would not work with a Java version newer than 7...

why do you want to install java 7?(*) Install the newest you can, I bet JOSM will run! It just needs at least Java 7. In fact JOSM's support for Java 7 is planned to be dropped in May 2016. About 96% of all Mac OS 10.11 users use JOSM with Java 8 (stats from the last link), so … it will run. ;-) I run JOSM with openJDK 8.u77 on Linux.

* maybe the wording on https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ needs adjustment ("written in Java 7", mac: "requires Java 7"), I will take care of it.

I am running the most recent JOSM on my Mac with El Capitan with Java 8 without apparent issues.
