[closed] can’t install mapnik on debian 8.2 and Windows Xp

0

Hello,

My name is Sofiane IDRI, new to the OpenStreetMap community, And I'm searching someone who can suggest me an interesting tutorial about how to install and how to start using the mapnik software. As information, I started with the mapnik.org installation instruction but it doesn't worked for me.

Thank you in advance for your help.

why exactly "it doesn't worked for me"? Please could you describe the step which failed? Some error message? And could you please insert a link to the installation instructions?

Thank you for your response #aseerel4c26. On debian, method 1: I used the instructions found on the mapnik github page : https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/blob/v3.0.10/INSTALL.md

I got this error message in the first step after 86% of the extraction operation : FATAL ERROR - can't continue to extract, 407 octects read

On debian, method 2: I downloaded Mapnik 3.0.10 on the official website : http://mapnik.org/pages/downloads.html Same as method 1; extraction operation failed.

On debian, method 3: I tried the method 1 and 2 in another computer in my university but I got the same result. Mapnik does not want to work for me !

You mean you get the error in the step "git clone https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik.git"? That would seem unrelated to mapnik, rather a bad internet connection. Why don't you use packages? Mapnik should be available in the debian repository

@IDRI: the first step (" git clone https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik.git ") of "method 1" works fine for me (Linux). What exactly did you download in "method 2"?

@datendelphin , @asserl4c26: I just found the problem : disk space insufficient to extract all the folders and files !!!

Mapnik Installation and building worked fine on my personal computer.

Thank you everyone for your contribution and your precious time.
