Hello,

I am creating a map and I intend to use OSM as a base map. I don't mind sharing the new map under the ODL since it's just going to be a free giveaway (brochure) and I do want the map to be actually shared/ copied/ reprinted/ modified/ enter_whatever_you_want_here, but here's the thing. For the new map, I have bought icons, which I can use for commercial purpose but cannot share as ODL.

How can I credit OSM in a way that it does not infringe the icon artists' rights?

Thank you very much for your time!

In case you want to produce a map (with some special icons) out of OSM data: Please read the full ODbL license and e.g. section 3c in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Legal_FAQ . Therefore, I see no problem with your icons for use in the produced work – the map. Just obey the requirements (e.g. attribution) of the ODbl.

In case you want to use the default map on osm.org as basis, you need to obey the license restrictions of this map's license too. It is Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0. This may not work with your non-sharable icons.

In both cases see https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright and read the full legal license texts (not the summaries).

(note: I am not a lawyer and do not, and cannot, speak for the OSM community. The license texts are binding.)
