When drawing a road in iD, it is sometimes not connected to some other road - for example, one road could pass another without a common node. What should I pay attention to when drawing roads to ensure they are properly connected ?

Note that we have great instructions for Potlatch at https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/20/how-do-i-ensure-that-ways-are-connected-in-potlatch - this is specifically about iD

When you are editing a line/way, iD will highlight in red an existing node/way you are hovering over. If you click when it's highlighted, whatever it is you're drawing will connect to it.

Richlv, keep mapping and "work carefully" by zooming into the subject, some iD mappers connect to much accidently. Add extra nodes and connect them by hand to make the connection between the excisting way and your new way.
