When an edit is contentious or just non-obvious, I'll often add a note to an area before making an edit. If I later go ahead with the edit, I want to be able to refer to the note in a unambiguous and easy to access manner. What is the best approach for doing this?

I guess it will be hard to be clearer and easier than a direct link to the note, like:

http://www.openstreetmap.org/note/1000

If that's too noisy you could do Note 1000, but then people reading have to go piece together the link.

Am I right to think that edit summaries do but support markdown? Ideally I'd link to it w/o having the entire link url displayed. For example "as per note 1000..."
