Hi, another technical question: Bicycle parking spots are often on one side of the sidewalk. So when adding a node to mark the bike parking in the map, there are two options: 1) Set an individual node where the bike parking (often: bike stands) are, either using GPS or imagery. This node will not be connected to any ways or paths. 2) Put the node onto the footpath/sidewalk, since it is kind of part of it. I don't think this is a good idea, but would like to hear confirmation. 3) May be use a relation with 1)? Again, I doubt this is needed or any useful. I have used option 1 so far, but would like to ask the community about the "best" approach. Cheers, Steffen |

I do option 1 also. This is how car parking works too. Modeling on how car parking gets extended, if you make the bike parking an area, you could connect that to a nearby path/highway. 1
I agree with you, but I'd also add that if the node representing the bike parking was part of the way for the bike path it would seem like the bike parking was in the middle of the path. Presumably not the case.

I agree with keithonearth after considering about it. It should probably never be put onto a node, because otherwise that would mean that the path is blocked or interrupted by the parking. Which is ususally not the case.

I think following above discussion, the answer is quite clear, the bike stands shouldn't be put on nodes on a way. This thread can be closed.
