Hi I recently changed ISP to BTinternet in the UK & found they don't do free webspace anymore. I've created a couple of web pages using Leaflet with OSM data & need some space to display to just a few people. I'm not looking for anything fancy just a small amount of space not even a unique domain name; I'm willing to piggy-back on the providing company's name. Any recommendations? asked 16 Mar '16, 12:47 DaveF aseerel4c26 ♦ |
How much of a techie are you? Would you feel comfortable setting your own server? When the prices dropped enough for a Virtual Private Server (VPS) I moved the sites I host out of the house and onto a VPS. I actually have two VPS instances now, both purchased when there were introductory offers, one at US$12/yr and the other at US$20/yr. I have the option of a number of different operating systems, I picked a version of Ubuntu with long term support but I could have picked a WIndows OS version if I'd wanted. With a bit of searching you can probably find an equivalent deal. If are willing to use bare IP addresses to access the server that is all you need. If you want a nice name then you'll have to work out a domain registrar and DNS service provider (may or may not be the same). In my case, DNS is much more expensive than the VPS. answered 17 Mar '16, 03:53 n76 |
Really quite OT ;-) Brain dump: Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_free_web_hosting_services or https://pages.github.com or host them yourself. answered 16 Mar '16, 20:05 aseerel4c26 ♦ |
I remember that two or three OSM related services are hosted at http://www.bplaced.net/ ... Maybe you can give them a try? answered 16 Mar '16, 16:53 stephan75 |
