you see only a footpath.

switching to editor-mode, you see a litte feature of the footpath, giving a Name and Elevation of the mountain-pass there.

Since this is an important landmark, it would be preferrable to have name and elevation beeing rendered on the map.

How can this be achieved?

I'm interested to notice that the default layer now renders the pass, presumably because you added the natural=saddle tag to it?

It's not said explicitly in response to your question, so I will point out that the default layer is only one of the possible renderings, and more outdoor oriented styles are more likely to render things like mountain passes.
