I have downloaded a map of area near Bristol and Bath using SHARE function. That worked fine. Now I want to download the exact same image but including the route from Bristol to Bath (highlighted on map). It displays fine in OSM. But when I download image, it is still standard map image without route highlighted. Surely there is an easy way to do this. I want to download the exact same map image so that I can animate the route from Bristol to Bath using video edit software. Thanks for your help. |

As far as I know there is no way which is integrated into the website to download an image of the map with your route. Alternative: take a screenshot! Or maybe you are more lucky with another OSM-based routing service. Thanks for quick reply. Much appreciated. I would just simply take two screenshots, but I need them to be totally identical. That is what I am having problems with. Any ideas?

@openstreetdan: use two tabs and move the maps until you see no small jump when you switch the tabs. Then take screenshots of both.

I am used to taking an excerpt screenshot (rectangle) ... but I guess you are right that I could just take a full screen screenshot and that should be identical. I just don't want all the info on the screen though.

@openstreetdan: yes, take two full screenshots and then crop them in, for example, GIMP while having loaded them in two layers. That way you get two identical cuts. Or do the positioning in GIMP instead of in the browser. Yes, it takes a while to get it right.

What you are trying to do won't work, the route displays on top of the map tiles locally in your browser and is not available to any of the software actually on the openstreetmap.org site. Depending on which routing engine you are using a possible approach would be to go to the actual routing service sites and see what kind of printing option they have. Most of them should allow you to download the route in some form so worst case you could likely create a map plus the route locally. The routing option on openstreetmap.org is simply a small layer of JavaScript code that retrieves routing instrctions from a number of dedicated routing sites, for example the default car routing is provided by the OSRM project. At the end of the routing instructions there should be a link which takes you to the actual original site. On the OSRM site you will actually find a printing option BTW.
