I am mapping in JOSM,and i find when i zoom out to look at my work, I cant see any of it because the place names are taking up so much room. How do I get the names of towns to go away so I can see the map?

Under 'View', 'Map Paint Styles', 'Map Paint Preferences', I chose the 'Less Obtrusive Nodes' option and that seems to clear my screen of Placenames until I zoom in quite close.
I normally edit with 'JOSM default (MapCSS)' + 'Potlatch 2 and the placenames are quite large but using 'JOSM default (MapCSS)' alone tones them down a bit.
'Wireframe' view also de-clutters the screen.

You can also use filters. Add "place" as a filter and all place nodes will disappear from view.

I use filters all the time and have some permanent filters of objects I don't want to mess with or accidentally connect roads and areas to, like boundaries.
