I created an Overpass query to search for areas to see if there were any unlabeled areas because I sometimes forget to mark buildings and was wondering if other people made the same mistake, and I found strange things like buildings marked as areas with "area=yes" tags. Should buildings be marked like this? I have also found rest areas, which are places where drivers can stop and potentially use the bathroom and ask for directions, marked with the "area=yes" tag.

The Wiki says that for service areas that use the tag highway=services one should be sure to include an area=yes tag, "because it is not considered the default for closed ways"

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dservices#Notes

An identical situation exists for the tag highway=rest__area:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Drest_area#Notes

Buildings probably should not use the area tag nor should either landuse or landcover objects.

Cheers, Dave
