Hello everybody,

I would like to create my own map using cycle lanes already embedded in someday backgrounds but I would like to know how I can add customized road names (i.e. : text just above a specific cycle lane).

I am a beginner and I think this question has been already asked in the past but I could not find an equivalent case like mine. Also, I had a look at the different tools available on the Net to create custom maps (uMap, JOSM or even Maperitive) but I must admit that I am a bit lost.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I produce my own walking maps, I have used several produced by other, Talkytoaster, Openfietsmap etc etc, but none did exactly what i wanted. So i set about producing my own.

I use a combination of Mkgmap, Osmosis and splitter,

Osmosis I use to crop the map, Splitter I use to split the map into sizes Mkgmap can handle Mkgmap produces the map,

The look and feel of the map is really determined by the Style files that MKGMAP uses

As a start, you can do a search on this FAQ site for "own style" ... there are some topics that may come near your aim.

Being a beginner, read the OSM wiki about Elements, Tags, Rendering, Maperitive, Mapnik and MapCSS
