I was biking today and found a new hollow on the road that may be very dangerous for night cyclists. Does anyone know how i can tag this? If needed i can share pictures. Thanks! asked 16 Nov '15, 21:13 VitCiobanu |
VitCiobanu I would go for a term of smoothness for a short or longer part of the road and read these pages for a good decision http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/smoothness answered 16 Nov '15, 21:21 Hendrikklaas 1
Thanks, however I'm not sure it correctly represents what i need. Look at his picture: http://www.campusbuzau.ro/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/groapa-2-300x225.jpg It is similar but much bigger, my mountain bike can fit in that cavity. Thinking that someone can bike on that path with 25-30 km (it is a descent), you can hardly avoid if seen in the late moment :( I will try to contact authorities tomorrow but wanted this to be on the map also

New question, how fast are the authorities reacting on this kind of messages as 'bad or hazardous' surfaces ? If it’s a year or several months put a description on OSM, shorter a week don’t bother. In between make your own decision ;=) Ps if its on one place / spot use a node or a stretch of 10.00 m. to map it.

If it will be months until that hole is repaired I might suggest adding a node there and tag it using barrier=yes, foot=yes, bicycle=no. You can remove the tagging later after repairs are made. This will probably mean that routing software will not use that road anymore but that depends on which routing software you use and whether you feel strongly enough about this hazard. I've seen similar things here in Thailand but they usually repair them fairly fast so I've never tagged them.. answered 17 Nov '15, 00:12 AlaskaDave 4
"bicycle=no" would imply a legal restriction on bicycles though - not what is wanted here, surely?

OP asked how to prevent bikers from hurting themselves. I didn't consider the legal side of it at all because this is presumably only a temporary situation. How would you handle it?

bicycle=no is definitely not ok as the path is a known one among mountain bikers and I hope someone already contacted authorities regarding it (which i will try to do tomorrow although Spanish is not my best language...). On the other hand, I have no idea how soon it will be resolved. Think the one thing i can do to help is create some signs and put them few meters before and after the cavity, at least to warn those who finish their cycling day near the evening when it is dark. Thanks to all your comments anyway! I will leave OSM unchanged and will monitor to see if someone takes any actions about it. If not, will just contact emergency number someday saying i felt into it and that they need to do something :)
