Tag required for often dry Ponds, Holes or Depressions that have been are excavated as a store for flood water they often turn into small natural nature reserve areas, sometimes fenced sometimes not. I looked at tag info but didn't have any success. Any ideas..edit I have found balancing_pond in taginfo with mixed other tags so should i use landuse=balancing_pond. landuse=basin with basin=* should be what you look for.

I did some thinking and research and for one of these "holes" I suggest the following:- Draw a polygon, tag as landuse=basin ( suggested Thanks) with additional tag flood=detention ( it holds flash flood water for slow release into drains or down into water table ). If normally a marsh tag as wetland = marsh. Hendrikklaas's suggestion seasonal=yes or intermittent=yes can also he added if they suit your situation. If the basin as a name you that as well ( but only from local knowledge or signs, not other maps).

Andy, why don’t you use the intermittent or seasonal tags, as been in use for rivers and streams ? Here’s a link to a similar situation in the middle of highways, with a flourishing wildlife, http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/52.0657/5.0718 quit and hardly any humans in sight. It has been designed so that the ponds are filled with the rainfall on the infrastructural asphalt surfaces.

Thanks Nick. I like those, i had not thought of either, although non of the water in your link seemed to have them.
