Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

I have just started using Maperitive and have a newbie question.

After I set the bounding box (a relatively small area-- just my local neighbourhood) I get the following error:

"Could not download the OSM data: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden"

I've tried a few times over the course of a few hours, and have tried downloading only very small areas, all with the same result. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

FWIW, I just tried it again, and it's now working.

Probably no help, but I get 403 when I try downloading too. It looks like both the mapquest XAPI and osm.rambler.ru Overpass instances are currently unavailable.

You could download the data using other overpass instances, or download an extract and cut out the area you want using a tool such as Osmosis.

Rambler overpass instance is currently on recovery after a hard disk failure. See this link: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Overpass_API/status
