Hi - There's a user that is consistently making up bad data in his/her edits to OSM. I've tried reaching out to them about not making up data but they keep doing it. Any suggestions on how to address it? |

The Data Working Group is the organisation that deals with disruptive mappers. If all else fails, contact them. Best to talk to them first, maybe they just don't know? |

Contacting in a friendly way is the first step, which you already did if I understand correctly. Of course the data has to be reverted / removed. If you need help you could ask other mappers (in your area or here) for help with this. As a last possible way you could ask the "Data Working Group" for help (messages, revert, blocking, …). Yes - I'd add to this that contacting users in the first instance via changeset discussion comments makes sense, as it's public, and other local mappers can see the comments too via e.g. http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussions (and having all the comments in public keeps everyone polite!). If that doesn't work (changeset discussion comments are sent via email, and some OSM email accounts may be misconfigured) then it makes sense to follow up with a user to user OSM message

Can you give an example of the bad data? Sometimes new users are simply unaware of how to do things correctly. There are a bunch of mappers in my locality who are adding names to nodes they've created but no other tags. Is it a shop, a restaurant? And the names are in Thai, which makes resolving such matters tricky to say the least.
This particular user has been making up data for at least three years:
-Assigning Ref: I-515 to parts of US 95 that are not an interstate. -Mapping Interstate 11's construction north of Las Vegas even though the route is merely proposed right now. -Changing street names inaccurately -Mapping construction projects that don't exist -Upgrading routes inappropriately (motorways that are trunks, etc)
There are others. I've contacted them 3-4 times over the years and never heard back. Gotta admit, I was frustrated today when I was cleaning up more edits (exit numbers that don't exist!) and I don't see an end in sight.
