I created a relation for several paths / ways. It contains a name, description and several other attributes. At the time of writing, that relation is not searchable in nominatim. Should it be searchable? If so, can someone comment as to what should be altered? |

I have mapped two walking route relations which I enjoyed hiking, the Rutland Round and the Rothschild Way neither are found by nominatim. The good thing is, as scai suggests, look on waymarkedtrails site where walking route relations can be searched and displayed on an OSM map. A GPX of the routes can also be exported. |

nominatim can search relations, see the second result for this example search (it is the admin boundary of Frankfurt. However, I guess that it simply does not include the type of route which you've mapped into its results. As always, you also have to wait for Nominatim to update its database, but that us usually very fast. I also could not find other walking routes. Workaround: You can use e.g. http://ra.osmsurround.org/searchRelation to search for your route. 1
I guess searching for routes is just not a use-case for Nominatim which seems reasonable to me.

Can you post a link explaining what doesn't work that you would expect to?
So clicking "http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5510386" shows the relation.
From that webpage, typing the name of the relation, "Tarka Trail - Croyde to Saunton", into the search box does not display any results.
If relations can be searched via nominatim then I would expect to see this relation in the returned resultset.
Note that you can view/download your route with other services, such as waymarkedtrails.org.
