Transport for London publish a list of cycle hire locations under a modified version of the UK Government's Open Data License. According to the wiki, the plain Open Government License is compatible with uploading to OSM. However, i'm unsure whether Transport for London's modified license is ok.

I ran through the list a few weeks ago and IIRC there are about 275 cycle hire locations missing from OSM. It would be cool to fill in the gaps.

Does anyone know if the license will allow it? (I tried emailing them a few weeks ago, and they declined to reply.)

It would be cool and totally within your rights to make a list of those 275 locations, go visit them, and survey them. It would be doubly cool to do that on a Boris bike. Triple cool for using an OSM-based travelling salesman software to plan the trip. Can it be done in a weekend? Write a blog entry and make a nice picture of your GPS track, and I promise we'll put you on "Image of the week".

You might also find a legal way to import them but that would be boring, and rob everyone else of the opportunity to do something cool so why waste your time on that.

Actually a tempting proposition...

You could possibly get some of the other London OSMers to join in as well - it'd be a great excuse for a mapping event. You could tweet @OSMLondon or pop in at the #osm-gb channel in http://irc.osm.org/ .
