Hallo, I've produced some maps using Big Map 2 with the so called toner lite format. This appears to have the copyright by Open Street Map plus Stamen design. Do you think I can use these images without legal problems for a scientific publication? Thanks a lot Andrea

http://maps.stamen.com/ says "Except otherwise noted, each of these map tile sets are © Stamen Design, under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 3.0) license." So, do you see another note from Stamen? On that page you also see a attribution hint. For OpenStreetMap's data copyright (which still applies) see https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright .

Yes, it seems you can use those maps if you obey the license requirements (click the links, read them) - if scientific or not does not matter.

Thank you for using OpenStreetMap data! :-)

Please note that this is no legal advice, nor a authoritative statement from the copyright owners. I am just one of the many OSM contributors – like everybody here.
