We want to engage small businesses within local communities. Compare it with Google Places or better Business: https://www.google.com/business/. Difference is that we:

  • want to keep this info open data to enrich osm and the service free
  • extend the data model, not only tags but related info like events, menu, recipes
  • extend with deep linking and third party transactions: buy a concert ticket, book a table,... Our project is about redefining local search, overcome the borders between mobile and web.

Our first challenge is to define the way we can best connect our content cloud to osm and integrate the process of claiming a location and start publising local content. For example a restaurant fills in contact details, opening hours and menus.

All thoughts, help and proposals are welcome to go the next step, from idea to proof of concept.

A lot of this info is compatible with OSM philosophy, so this information you can just put in OSM. Look at projects like Wheelmap, Openbeermap, Coffeedex

Some information should not be put in the Openstreetmap database. Then you will want to link data. I wrote a bit about my ideas on that subject in my diary. The comments there will give you an idea about most other available options too.
