In the picture below, the fact that the footpaths have the tag "bridge=boardwalk" cause the footpaths to be rendered as bridges. At this zoom level (14), the bridge rendering overshadows the footpath. I think the rendering should be changed so that at level 14 and below, the footpaths should be rendered as standard footpaths, and upon zooming to higher levels, the bridge depiction can be shown. To add a little bit to that - it's perhaps worth looking through some of the previous issues that have been raised about footpath and related feature rendering previously. The "correct" rendering is always a balancing act between showing too much and showing too little, and as everyone wants to see different features it's not possible to please everyone.
