What is the licensing situation for the OSM icon? Is the logo (Map with a magnifing glass glas) is copyrighted?

The logo is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0. See e.g. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Openstreetmap_logo.svg

Note, however, that the OpenStreetMap Foundation owns the Trademarks for the OpenStreetMap Logo in the UK. An application for European trademark for the name 'OpenStreetMap' is also in hand ( http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Trademark ). This means there are additional restrictions on using the logo, at least for commercial use (and maybe even for non-commercial use).
