is it possible that you are using Internet Explorer (please "add new comment" to answer)? If yes: See when-my-favorite-setting-is-id-potlatch-2-is-still-opening-when-i-press-edit-in-ie. Use another browser: Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Safari, Opera, … answered 29 Apr '15, 21:16 aseerel4c26 ♦ |
Which video instructions were you following? Perhaps it might be possible to add a comment to that saying "if you're using IE, you won't get iD"?
@SomeoneElse: in fact I think the interface on osm.org should tell this to IE users. E.g. a popup "your default editor setting is "iD" but we cannot start it because you are using an unsupported browser (Internet Explorer), use another browser (Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Safari, Opera, …) if you want to use iD. As a replacement we will try to start "Potlatch 2" now. [OK]
@aseerel4c26 that's not something that's going to change as a result of a help question comment :)
One problem is that many people won't have explicitly chosen iD as their default; it'll have been chosen for them when they sign up. Note that this has previously been discussed at https://github.com/openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website/issues/941 .
@SomeoneElse: oh, really? :-P I do not use github as a matter of principle, so … and I nearly guessed that it is intentionally or that just no one likes to program it. Thanks for the issue link!
Yes, I know that most did not set it as default themselves - but they could really change the default to Potlatch 2 if they really want to regularly use IE and want to get rid of the warning.
