Hello, I'm a new user to OSM and am trying to get started. This is probably a pretty stupid question but I'm at a complete loss as to how to proceed. I wanted to download a small map area and then load that onto my GPS. I selected the area I was interested in and then hit clicked the "export" button and renamed the file to reflect the name of the area. I looked for an OSM to IMG converter and found a program called MKGMAP. I downloaded this but nothing seems to happen. It created a folder called mkgmap-r3498 with 3 subdirectories plus miscellaneous files but how do I actually run the program? There doesn't seem to be any kind of executable file so what do I actually do to convert the file I exported from OSM?

Lots of people have asked this sort of question before. Do any of the answers here help:

… and in short: maybe/likely you do not want to do the conversion by yourself, but use a pre-made OSM-based map for Garmin devices. See the older questions tagged with "Garmin".
