While editing opencycle map to add some recently built cycle paths in the city of Rho (Italy), I found that at certain zoom levels a group of totally non existing huge straight main roads were shown on top of the real map (see attached screenshot). However, when going to iD editing functions, these streets were not there so it was impossible to get rid of them. What can be done? Please help, this thing is terrible

There is no screenshot attached. Alternatively you can just add an URL to the region in question.

It has now been 3 days since alecs01 corrected this problem in the data....and it is still there; tomorrow morning I have a meeting and we should discuss things and plans on this map... what are the chances that the artifacts will not be there? Alas, I will find it hard to promote the use of OpenCycleMap if it is still showing such a hugely visible problem right in our area.... Sorry for being such a bother

You will have to deal with these kind of problems. There will always be minor errors in OpenStreetMap, the same way as there will be with any other map no matter if free or proprietary. If you want to use OpenCycleMap tiles for a commercial project it might be useful to get into contact with Andy Allan, he might also trigger re-rendering of specific tiles for you.

You can also think about rendering your own tiles instead. They will look a bit different though because OpenCycleMap uses a proprietary style as far as I know.

The OpenCycleMap tiles are provided by http://www.thunderforest.com/ I'm sure there is a simple solution to getting your area updated faster by the way of exchanging money for the service.

You may be able to find another suitable map to use in the meantime from the list here http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/List_of_OSM_based_Services

No, sorry, there is no intention of using the mapping for commercial purposes, at least I think. I am a member of FIAB, a pro-bike association made of volunteers here in Italy (member of ECF, European Cyclist Federation). We are preparing some printed material to promote cycling as a fair and sustainable transport choice here in our area. The material will be distributed free of charge. By the way, if you think this is to be considered a commercial project, please let me know asap. Otherwise, you're right, we will hold tight and wait for the update.

Unfortunately, the problem has spread to at least some of them: I have just tried opentopomap, and the artifacts are there: have a look at http://opentopomap.org/#map=15/45.53324/9.04879

That's nothing unusual. The error has been in the OSM database and consequently all maps based on OSM will have to deal with it. Again, just be patient until the corrected data has spread.

There was a stretch of road moved by mistake, I corrected it yesterday: http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/28334538 some tiles may not be up-to-date yet, anyway data are fine.

Thanks for the news, I hope tiles will be updated soon, we are using some maps for a pro-cycling leaflet and right now we are stuck with this prob...

The standard layer appears to be rendering ok at all zoom levels now.

OpenCycleMap may not yet a) have re-rendered or b) updated its database. This may take 2-3 days.

(23 Jan '15, 12:37) SK53 ♦

In fact, "nevw", I do not know what you mean by "standard layer", but I have emptied my browser cache to be sure, and the bunch of wrong parallel streets are still there in opencyclemap. I cannot post images here, but please check for yourself at:

http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/45.5357/9.0344&layers=C

The same happens for zoom levels 16 and 17. I do hope that these errors will soon disappear, but as I see it what "nevw" wrote 3 hours ago is not correct at the moment

(23 Jan '15, 14:37) Silvandy

Sorry, only zoom levels 15 and 16 have the problem, level 17 does not

The "standard layer" is the layer with the name "standard", available via the layer icon. As already explained by SK53, just wait until the cycle map database and tiles have been updated.

I see, thanks for clarifying. I actually always work with opencyclemap, so I did not even look at the "standard" layer, which to me is actually another type of map. Sorry
