how to find new garmin tile numbers in “planet”

0

The largest tile number in the new "planet" collection is 63244411. So the old mapping formula (Long/Lat)--->tile number is not valid any more (as was used in kuester.mobi/tools/OSM/CoordinateToOSMTile.html). What is the new map from (Lon/Lat) to the correct world-tile-number??

What do you mean by "the new planet collection", and how are there tile numbers in there?

It appears to be something to do with garmin map tile numbers. These are completely arbitrary depending on who splits the planet up into sections.

Perhaps it's worth taking a step back and explaining what you're actually trying to do? Describe in a bit more detail the process that you're following and why, and explain which part does not work?

In long: I did for years: 1)find some tile numbers of the special area (say Easter Islands) via kuester.mobi/tools/OSM/CoordinateToOSMTile.html 2) download some tiles (here:63252663.img), unpack and install into my Mapsource 3) could build my Garmin-map onto eTrex or whatever Now I have found the new OSM-world-maps on http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/teddynetz.de/latest/new/ as the very big file planet_neu.tgz, After long download and unzipping I cannot know which of the tiles 63240001 until 62344411 is my ONE needed

Is there a new known mapping coordinates ---> tile number ??

If you're using Garmin map tiles created by an individual OSM user and they've changed something, I'd ask them about it.

Your question is very confusing to say the least. I currently suspect that if what you did ever worked it was pure coincidence.

As Andy has already pointed out the tile numbers depend on how somebody preparing a Garmin map splits the world up which is typically done automatically depending on data density. It would be surprising if such a tiling would be stable over longer periods and even more surprising if the result could be caculated via an unrelated website.

If you want a Garmin map for a specific region you may be better served by using http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ or one of the regional maps listed here: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download
