Where can I find out tiles number?

background: The "tile browser" link here was broken at https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Help/Action/Download#TileNumbers.

by the way: I have replaced that old paragraph now, since the T@H service is out of operation since years.

Do you want to easily find out tile numbers in your web browser?

  1. Just go to http://mc.bbbike.org/mc/?lon=51.5273&lat=25.2806&zoom=14&num=1&mt0=mapnik (or any other slippy map with OpenLayers) (on the OSM homepage this does not work anymore),
  2. navigate to your desired location,
  3. right click the desired tile on the map,
  4. select the first entry "show image"(Firefox)/"open image in new tab"(Chromium),
  5. then just look at your browser's address/URL bar which will show e.g. https://a.tile.openstreetmap.org/14/10537/7001.png .
  6. In this address you find the tile numbers (14/10537/7001) in a format which you can paste directly into the JOSM download window.

Other interesting tools are at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Slippy_map_tilenames#Tools

it works! But it's a little complex on safari for common users. XD

Fine, thanks for the feedback and the info about safari!

Does this still work? I have a suspicion that since osm.org upgraded to Leaflet 1.0, it no longer does. If it does work, in what browser and on what OS does it work for you?

@SomeoneElse: Thanks, I have updated my answer. Apparently this does not work with the current Leaflet, yes.

I just figure out the know-how on JOSM:

  1. Right click on the editing zone.
  2. Click on "Show Tile Info"

Then it works.
