hi! I downloaded an OSM map for my Garmin nuvi2455lmt. Its file type is .img. I've downloaded garmin express as well as basecamp. I copied the .img file to the "Garmin" folder on the unit (not an SD card) and now basecamp recognizes it, and the maps are there (only in basecamp)... problem is that the maps aren't showing up on the unit itself. I click "install map on nuvi2455" on basecamp and i get a message "No unlocked maps were found for this device."...

I've spent HOURS on this! Why can't it be simple?! please help=)

"Why can't it be simple?!" – you should ask this at the company Garmin. ;-) However, someone will try to help you here, I guess.

I called Garmin and they said they can't help with non-garmin maps. this is the file link: http://www.openmapchest.org/media/torrents/1za0w5rp9wk7h2l9q0i0ynd6bsgiau7lg/Caribbean%20Garmin%20Map%202014.12.03.torrent

actually this question seems to be a duplicate of the older added-map-not-listed-in-garmin-nuvi-2455lmt-mymap. @onlinepersona: could you please add your answer over there because it is the older question.

... I just picked up an SD card so i'm trying that now by: making a folder on the SD called "map" and coping the .img file there, and then plugging the SD into my garmin

... And that did the trick!!

All over an SD card!!

Thanks all!

good luck to those to come after me- I hope this helps you!

SD cards (in a card reader) may be faster anyway (compared to the devices' usb port).

Great!

btw: http://www.openmapchest.org/instructions/ already knew about that restriction before :)

Caution: The map will not work if you put it in the Garmin folder of the GPS device itself; the map file must be placed in the Garmin folder of the SD-card.
