Should I tag a building as mall?

1

The Tag:shop=mall wiki page says the following:

Because of their size, we'll mostly be mapping these as an Area area around outline of the building (perhaps also with a building=yes tag).

Does this means that the default/encouraged mapping is to map the mall building then create an area around it and tag it as shop=mall?

It seems a bit illogical for me. Actually I would map the building and tag it as building=commercial or retail with the shop=mall tag, then map the area around everything that is used for shopping/mall purposes (like parking lots) and tag it as landuse=retail. Why should I map an area with shop=mall when we think about malls as bulidings?

So what is the proper way to map?

The way you logically would have done it is the right way. Wiki page is here a little bit confusing.

What wiki describes would suit malls that consist of several separate buildings.
